Adult classes are an hour and a half of self-defense and fighting fundamentals, Muay Thai striking drills, Kenpo forms, and self-defense application oriented instruction. Fitness and self-defense fighting concepts are our primary focus. Adults from 16 to 65 years of age train in the core material of fighting and self-defense to advance in rank and learn the principles and concepts to protect themselves and loved-ones through the use of American Kenpo and Kickboxing.
Our members train with passion, dedication, loyalty, compassion, intensity and a zeal for the art beyond what you will normally find. Please take the time to call and reserve your free introductory class at our new North Phoenix location today. You will be hard pressed to find a more inviting and helpful group of Martial Artists anywhere in Arizona.
Plan on being challenged to strive for excellence by our chief instructor, Greg Medford, every time you come to class. Whether you are looking for fitness, stylistic form, self-defense, or just plain fighting skills, Mr. Medford will push, pull, cajole, prod and help bring out the Warrior from within. Through his personal experience, learned knowledge, and educational background, Mr. Medford is able to get the instructional “message” to you in a unique way that can be quickly retained, internalized, and ultimately used in real-world application.
Many instructors focus on tournaments and find notoriety through their students’ competitive achievement, but Greg is excited and challenged daily being a teacher, trainer, conditioning coach and friend. One of his favorite sayings is, “See ya on the mat…”
How does Kenpo fit into the MMA craze?
1993 saw the UFC break onto the scene and set the Martial Arts world on its end. The world fight scene will be forever altered and for many the desire to know about this dynamic sport fighting method is too strong to resist. If you are looking to really get to know Ultimate Fighting, without getting carried out of class on a stretcher, then Scottsdale & North Phoenix has a great place for you to get to know yourself and see what you are made of. American Karate Studios offers classes here in Phoenix like few others. We have seamlessly taken a progressive self-defense art like Kenpo and attached straight-up Kickboxing conditioning drills, contact drills and take-down methods to our stand-up approach. From Chuck Liddell to Loyota Machida we have seen how well classical martial arts training develops sophisticated instincts for controlling the tempo, range, and arena in which fighting takes place.
Our school here in North Phoenix is easily accessible to any serious student in Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Glendale, Cave Creek, Care Free, Arrowhead, New River, Peopia, or Anthem. We use a modern teaching approach preferred by most westerners as opposed to the “Baptism-by-fire” method usually seen in the Mixed Martial Arts community. Classes are offered 6 days each week and we focus on teaching skills as well as serious conditioning and free sparring. Tuesday & Thursday we fight after regular class.
Every class begins with conditioning drills that focus on the fundamentals of Self-defense and fighting, followed by technique review and actual dynamic application of moves against a variety of realistic attacks and each class ends with forms application and contact drilling. We have a growing stable of classy fighters who love the art of gentlemanly fighting. No one is down here getting ready for the cage so we keep the sparring to a reasonable intensity level enabling everyone to make it to work the next day! In addition to mitigating most injuries our approach and intensity is most conducive to learning and actually making great progress in relatively little time. Most adults with little experience can be quite competent in neutralizing all but the most professional attackers in a very short time. We don’t mean experts, but you’ll have most of the tools that with practice, put you on the same knowledge level as many Competitive Cage Fighters.
“Control Position then fight or submission” …is our motto.
